About the Author

Franz Kafka was born to Jewish parents in Bohemia in 1883. Kafka s father was a luxury goods retailer who worked long hours and as a result never became close with his son. Kafka s relationship with his father greatly influenced his later writing and directly informed his Brief an den Vater (Letter to His Father). Kafka had a thorough education and was fluent in both German and Czech. As a young man, he was hired to work at an insurance company where he was quickly promoted despite his desire to devote his time to writing rather than insurance. Over the course of his life, Kafka wrote a great number of stories, letters, and essays, but burned the majority of his work before his death and requested that his friend Max Brod burn the rest. Brod, however, did not fulfill this request and published many of the works in the years following Kafka s death of tuberculosis in 1924. Thus, most of Kafka s works were published posthumously, and he did not live to see them recognized as some of the most important examples of literature of the twentieth century. Kafka s works are considered among the most significant pieces of existentialist writing, and he is remembered for his poignant depictions of internal conflicts with alienation and oppression. Some of Kafka s most famous works include The Metamorphosis, The Trial and The Castle.

Assists non-techies to efficiently explain their needs to IT

I have been in marketing and sales for quite a while and one of the things that I found challenging was explaining to the tech guys what information I precisely required in their lingo. Most seem to speak "third normal form" or "star schema" and "ETL" and other "tech speak". In summary, before I read Brijs' book I invested too much time in getting my point across.

With this book, I can finally connect with ICT and pinpoint exactly what I need, why and the format required. This is a also a winner for the tech guys as they can now spend less time second guessing and more time efficiently drawing the desired date from deep inside their databases.

"BA4BI" should become a brand for this new crossover discipline the author has revealed to me.

Mr. Brijs made a successful attempt to provide practical tips, tricks and hints to translate the strategy process into a business intelligence process.
Not just by using checklists and diagrams but also by underpinning his practical approach with proven economic, technical and organizational behavior theories.

I can recommend this book to managers who want to understand their BI developers better but also the technicians will benefit from this book as they get a clearer view of the context in which their system is being analyzed, designed, built and maintained.

A tip: don't buy the electronic version, you will want the hardcover within reach when you are working on a BI or CRM project.

This book deals with the transition from business strategy to business intelligence.
Most books I have read about this subject were either for dummies or emphasized specific BI software.
However, for me as a consultant and a developer of CRM software, it is much more interesting to understand how BI can be integrated as a part of a business strategy.

In my opinion, Mr. Brijs has succeeded in showing his experience on why and how to use several BI instruments to achieve goals to improve business.

Although the book is quite expensive, the value of the applicable and professional knowledge makes it worth buying.
Besides, it is readable.

Sew Fun!

I was a disaster with needle and thread before reading this, and although this book is not a "how-to" for sewing, it does cover some basics. I recently got my first sewing machine and have been happy enough with the first three things I made (all from this book) that I gave them away as gifts (well liked!). That's a huge step forward!

The only thing I wish was different? Some of the creatures don't have patterns, you're supposed to free-hand draw them yourself. It takes some practice to get the size right to account for seam allowances, but it's not bad. That's why plush toys are so great.... there is a lot of room for imperfection. :) That said, if you're going to write a book, and include patterns, why not go all the way and include them for everything?

Otherwise, I love this book! I would also recommend Softies: Simple Instructions for 25 Plush Pals if you like fun and whimsical creatures.

Great and Fun book

I was so excited to get this book, and fortunately, was not disappointed when I did! I love the pictures, the instructions are easy, and considering I had no previous experience sewing or creature creating, it's easy to follow! I found this book through Jenny Harada's site, which I stumbled on quite by accident while searching through all things cute, and decided to give it a try! I wasn't pleased with ALL of the plushies detailed in the book, but the majority are winners. Definitely get this book if you're interested in getting started, or just being able to flip through it from time to time!

Imaginative and adventurous sewing, great projects to share with family ( mother/daughter projects). Quirky enough for preteens/teens and environmentally friendly, several projects are made with recycled clothing and/or materials. Anyone with a sense of humor would love one of these projects as a gift. The templates and ideas keep you thinking and planning more sewing projects. Great idea!!!!

About the Author

Raymond C. Valentine is currently professor emeritus at the University of California, Davis and visiting scholar in the Marine Science Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was also the scientific founder of Calgene, Inc. (Davis, California), now a campus of Monsanto, Inc. The author’s scientific interests involve the use of reductionism to address problems of fundamental scientific and societal importance, such as agricultural productivity and aging. Some of his scientific accomplishments include the discovery of ferredoxin, the identification and naming of the nitrogen fixation (nif) genes, and the development of Roundup® resistance in crops. He holds BS and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

David L. Valentine is currently a professor of earth science with affiliations in ecology, evolution, and marine biology, as well as the Marine Science Institute, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The author’s scientific interests involve the use of a systems-based approach to investigate the interaction between microbes and the earth, particularly in the subsurface and oceanic realms. He is best known for his research on the biogeochemistry of methane and other hydrocarbons, his works on archaeal metabolism and ecology, and his scientific work on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Most of these poems are short, one page, in fact. I enjoyed some of them, and I won't comment further because, really, poetry is a personal thing. But I did really enjoy the "Man with a Hoe" and "From the Hand of a Child".

The Man with the Hoe - A Very Powerful and Inspirational Poem

To be clear, I do NOT have the Kindle product for sale here. I have not seen it. However the poem The Man with the Hoe is very powerful. I highly recommend reading it. This one poem can be read in one sitting. It is fairly clearly written, sort of like The New Colossus, by Emma Lazarus. But it is about the downtrodden working person. I first heard of it while reading a biography of Langston Hughes written by Arnold Rampersad. I downloaded it online for free...

About the Author
Arno Ilgner distinguished himself as a pioneering rock climber in the 1970s and 80s, when the top climbs were bold and dangerous first ascents. These personal exploits are the foundation for Ilgner s unique physical and mental training program--The Warrior`s Way. In 1995, after a thorough search of the literature and practice of mental training and the great warrior traditions, Ilgner formalized his methods, founded the Desiderata Institute, and began teaching his program full time. Since then, he has helped hundreds of student sharpen their awareness, focus attention, and understand their athletic (and life) challenges within a coherent, learning-based philosophy of intelligent risk-taking. Ilgner considers the joy and satisfaction in the effort the journey intimately linked to successful attainment of goals, the destination. Alumni of his courses now include some of the nation s most prominent climbers. Ilgner has run clinics in the north- and southeastern U.S, to California, Canada, and the U.K. He has worked with young competition climbers and written national magazine articles based on his methods. He holds a BA in geology, spent several years operating his own geological consulting firm in the Wyoming oil fields, acted as Chief Financial Officer for an industrial tool distribution company, attended the Army Ranger School, and served a non-combat tour of duty in Korea. He currently resides with his family near Nashville, Tennessee.

Ever bail?
This book should be on the reading list of anyone who has ever bailed off a big wall (a mountain or any other uncomfortable committing endeavor) and is strong and mature enough to really confront why.
